ABOUT US

AL-RAHMA CHARITY ASSOCIATION

For generations, communities in Somalia have endured the dual burden of poverty and
environmental degradation. From the colonial era to the present, the people have not only been
victims of conflict and displacement but also witnesses to the depletion of their natural resources.
Ignorance, disease, and poverty have devastated livelihoods, while unsustainable practices have
worsened food insecurity and waste accumulation.

ACA | Core Work - Sustainable Impact

Core Work of the Organization

Children learning in a green school environment
Education, Health Awareness & Nutrition
Establish free schools and feeding programs for homeless orphans using upcycled materials and locally grown food. Integrate health education — including hygiene, nutrition, FGM awareness, and disease prevention (e.g., AIDS) — into school curricula and community outreach.
Farmers working on permaculture fields
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security
Train smallholder farmers in permaculture, composting, and water conservation. Support the restoration of degraded land, rehabilitation of water catchments, and promotion of drought-resistant, zero-waste farming to ensure long-term food and water security.
Solar-powered health clinic with safe disposal system
Green Health Care & Medical Waste Management
Provide free health services for vulnerable mothers and children in clinics powered by solar energy and equipped with safe medical waste disposal systems. Incorporate health education into clinical services to empower patients with knowledge on prevention and healthy practices.
Recycling rubble into resilient shelters
Disaster Recovery & Circular Reconstruction
In IDP settlements and disaster zones, lead efforts to recycle rubble and waste into building materials for resilient shelters and community infrastructure. Combining emergency relief with environmental action.
Youth training in renewable energy and recycling
Youth Empowerment & Green Skills Development
Guide misguided youth through awareness campaigns and health education on social issues (including FGM and AIDS). Alongside vocational training in recycling technologies, urban farming, and renewable energy installation.
Women transforming discarded textiles into new products
Inclusive Green Economy & Women's Entrepreneurship
Advocate for women’s economic independence by training them to transform discarded textiles, plastics, and organics into saleable products. Empower disabled people through accessible education and entrepreneurship in the circular economy, ensuring health education and safe working conditions are part of all programs.

GOAL

ACA is dedicated to solving the intertwined problems of poverty and environmental degradation.
Our goal is to address the root causes of these issues in our operational areas:
Homeless and orphaned children will find shelter, education, and nutrition in centers that
model zero-waste living.
Women will be freed from continual discrimination and empowered as leaders of household
and community-level resource recovery.
Youth will be diverted from illegal migration and militia formation through dignified
employment in waste management, recycling, and sustainable agriculture.
Disabled people will be equipped to participate fully in society through accessible, inclusive
circular economy initiatives.
Rural communities devastated by natural and manmade disasters will be rebuilt using debris
recycling and climate-resilient, zero-waste designs.
